Baseball and Softball Summer Programs

To our Mineola Athletic Association family,
It is with great pleasure that the Mineola Baseball and Softball Board announces registration for the Summer 2020 Season for all age groups!  It has been a long couple of months for all of us and it's time to get the kids back on the field.  As many of you know, Governor Cuomo has indicated that starting on July 6, certain youth sports will be allowed.  Baseball and Softball are two of them.  The Board apologizes to the Cheerleading community but it has not been designated an approved sport as of yet so we will be unable to offer registration at this time.
Obviously this will be a summer season like no other, and will come with a different set of rules and protocols.  While there are still many details to be worked out, we do anticipate being able to play games for most of the age groups and a clinic setting for the younger kids.  Below are some of the policies and protocols that will be in place.  Of note, all players must have their own glove, helmet and bat.  There will be no sharing of equipment allowed.  Also, the issue of masks while on the playing field is still to be determined.  We are in uncharted territory and will abide by all state, local and CDC guidelines to allow our children to safely enjoy some normalcy this summer.   As with almost everything these days, the protocols may be subject to change.  In addition, a waiver may be required to be completed by the parent/guardian of each child participating prior to the first practice.
Safety Policy -
Following government mandated health and safety protocols and mandates, the MAA will have the following safety policies in 2020 -
  • A parent(s) should be in attendance at all MAA functions with their child/player;
  • Parental assistance will be required at every team event. Please be responsible for your own child's enjoyment and well being during his/her involvement in the baseball/softball program;
  • Parents and spectators shall wear a mask when at any MAA function and in less than a 6 foot proximity of any team members, parents / spectators, etc;
  • Adult coaches and volunteers shall wear a mask when in less than 6 foot proximity of any team members, parents and spectators;
  • At all times, every effort shall be made by all adults - parents and spectators and volunteers to maintain the six (6) foot spacing "rules".
  • No physical contact (hi fives, arm bashes, hand shakes, etc.) shall be made between players and/or coaches / volunteers at any time;
NOTE - MAA volunteers are wearing their masks to protect you and your child. Please reciprocate by wearing your mask to protect everyone around you.
What "your player needs to have" Policy -
In 2020, the MAA will not be providing Team Equipment to share among players.
Therefore in order to participate in any team function, the MAA mandates that each player must have his/her own -
  • mask;
  • baseball/softball glove;
  • baseball/softball bat;
  • helmet;
  • water/drink bottle and snack;
The Willis Avenue Snack Stand will NOT be opened during the Summer 2020 season.

It is unclear if any of the restrooms will be opened at any of the playing fields in 2020.  They are operated by the Village and they will make the determination on that issue.
  • The MAA suggests you provide your own sanitizer/wipes as you deem necessary when using any facilities that are available
The registration can be found on our website,
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
The Board would like to thank the entire Mineola Community for the patience and understanding and now it's time to play ball!!!
Thank you,
Andrew Murray
